"I am very concerned about the well-being of ordinary people just trying to put food on the table and sneakers on their kids' feet. Working harder and harder to get by day-to-day. Losing the lifelines that kept them afloat, like Medicaid and food assistance. I want to go to Washington to defend- not defund, fix-not destroy, and help restore a government that is truly "Of the People, by the People and for the People".
Better Representation for the people of Nebraska Congressional District 2
I am a retired eye surgeon, who has lived and worked in Nebraska for over 25 years. Growing up as one of 12 children working on the family farm I learned early the value of hard work and respect for others. And how much it takes to just get by. I believe strongly in the Constitution, the rule of Law, and protection of human rights and freedoms - everything that, up to now, has made America truly great and a beacon of hope in the world.

I'm no career politician. I don't have big money or a big political machine, but I can't stay silent while everything that I love about this country - its independence, its diversity, its ambition, its ability to work hard, and also its tradition of compassion and caring for others at home and abroad - and just ordinary human decency - is being destroyed in front of our eyes. I have worked on political campaigns since the excitement and hope of Obama's first run for office. But times change-- oh how they change... ​

Everything that makes our country TRULY great is under attack. All to give tax breaks to donors and big corporations who profit at the people's expense and don't see it as their obligation to give back to the Country that made their success possible. And to concentrate power in the hands of a few wealthy would-be dictators instead of where it belongs, with "We the People​​​"!

Elected officials and the judiciary berated, threatened and even arrested for trying to do their jobs. The National Guard and our the military deployed against peaceful citizens exercising their constitutional rights. ICE- lawless, violent, nameless, faceless gangs roaming our streets and kidnapping and detaining anyone at random without due process or oversight. Violent and divisive rhetoric coming from the highest office in the land inspiring political assassinations. Where is the "Liberty and Justice for All"? It's hard to believe that this is the America that we all love.

And our President recently said in an interview that he "doesn't know" if he has to uphold and protect our Constitution. This should be a red flag to ALL patriotic Americans, regardless of party - this is now beyond politics.​

​Our representatives have deliberately chosen to neglect their duty. They swore an oath to the Constitution, not to a political party, not to their donors, and not to the President. They are making a mockery of the system of checks and balances and the separation of powers established by our founding fathers.
​
It is time to stop thinking as partisans and start thinking as patriots. This is beyond "Right" and "Left", or Red and Blue. Our country's future isn't a football game. ​
​
​It is time to stop playing politics at the expense of the people.​​​
​
It is time to start working together for the future of our Democracy.​

THE BIG BAD BILL​
​
Against the wishes of most Americans, Congress just passed a spending bill that strips away social safety nets and essential services from the American people.
​
They lied and cheated by claiming that if they didn't pass the bill, we would all be paying a lot more tax. A tax law must be passed this year. But this wasn't the way to go about it. ​And it didn't need to be done in such a hurry with no transparency or oversight. In addition, much of what is in this bill has no business in "reconciliation". They are rewriting our laws in order to illegally avoid normal legislative processes.
​
They could have crafted a bill that cuts taxes for regular people. But they chose to pander to their richest donors instead, leaving crumbs for the rest of us. The lowest income voters would benefit by $90 per year, while the highest 1% would benefit by $64,000 per year. And for their super wealthy donors? Leaves all the loopholes and gives further millions and millions of dollars in tax cuts.​

Increases the national debt by $4 TRILLION over 10 years.

17 million will lose health care, 70,000 in Nebraska alone.

Cuts to SNAP (food assistance) by $300 billion- critical for families, kids and veterans

Cuts to medical research, Education, Public Health, National Parks, air safety, environmental safeguards, FEMA, weather prediction and warnings, and so much more.

Millions of manufacturing and construction jobs destroyed. ​

1 TRILLION in tax cuts for the already wealthy.

Massive increases in funding for ICE, essentially paying for a separate "police" that have no boundaries, no scruples, and no respect for our laws and our human rights. We have seen this before in history and it is chilling.

Mitch McConnell says: "Don't listen to your voters- they will get over it!" ​
Well, here's the thing, Mitch: We the People are not getting over it!
​
Even though our so-called representatives have voted for this despicable bill, bought and paid for by the big donors, we can still flood the phone lines and overflow their inboxes with our opinion on the subject. WE THE PEOPLE will remember!
