Climate Change:

The National Weather Service, NOAA and NASA

In Nebraska we have first-hand experience of the weather and of the tremendous benefits we derive from the last 80 years of American scientific achievement.

Ever since the 1940's, under Democratic and Republican administrations alike, the USA has been the epicenter of climate and weather prediction. We have pushed the bounds of human knowledge, using our research and modern computing techniques, so that now we take for granted our ability to to pull out our phones or turn on the TV and see if our lives or properties are in danger. We can predict future weather conditions days in advance. This has benefitted all of us -- farmers, city planners, first responders, businesses and ordinary families alike.

This should NOT be a political issue. But somehow the Republicans have succeeded in making it one.

Because the Republicans are funded by Big Oil and Coal interests, suddenly the discussion of, and research into, climate change has become forbidden. If you ignore it, it will go away, right? No. Wrong! Science doesn't work like that.

Weather emergencies don't bow to the whims of politicians and "influencers". The weather doesn't care what we "believe" or "don't believe".

Only unbiased research and balanced inquiry will solve the issue of the existence of climate change and what to do about it.

Right now, funding cuts have hamstrung our climate and weather scientists -- thousands fired and millions of dollars cut from the budgets. Important pages of information "disappeared" from federal websites. The scientists that are left are afraid to speak out for fear of reprisals. How can this be the America we all love?

Our entire system of prediction and warning for weather and weather-related emergencies is damaged.  And thanks to our complacent and complicit representatives, we are now in real danger.

WE DESERVE BETTER!
